How long mx records setup validation in progress

But if you want to have a go yourself, I'm going to show you exactly what to do. Like many people that I've shown how to do this, you may find that many people part of the way through the process, you get to the end and you decide that you want to delegate it to someone else, which I would thoroughly recommend.

Okay, now we've got that out of the way. Let's get into the actual content. And if you're wondering where I am, I'm actually based in a campervan at the moment, and I'm traveling around Australia. And so I'm streaming and working from wherever I am. So if you're joining from somewhere in Australia or outside of Australia, please go ahead and drop your location down below.

I'd love to know where you're watching from, and we're going to jump into our guide now. So the first thing that you're going to need, you're going to need a few things to get this working. The first thing that you're going to need is access to a DNS toolbox. And this is the one that I use and recommend. It's called MxToolbox. And MxToolbox is the one that we want to use in this session for me to show you exactly how all of this works. You're also going to need access to your DNS.

You might be using GoDaddy or Crazy Domains, but we're going to be using Cloudflare and I'm going to show you how all this works in Cloudflare. Number three thing that you need is the Google admin console. And so the Google admin console is where we do all of the admin settings for our G Suite account. So obviously you need to be an administrator, you're going to need to be able to access that.

And then I'm going to use some of the Google help guides here as well. And so here with the help guides, you can see these actually cover off some of the protocols that we're going to be working with. Okay, so now we've got all those taken care of. I want to actually take you through what the DNS records are and how to understand what is what. It all gets a bit confusing, but the ones that are most important here are the MX records.

And the MX records are the ones that tell your domain name where to deliver email and tell the email servers, all the world, where to deliver email for you as well. And so these are MX records. They stand for mail exchanger, and we are going to be working with our MX records today. And those four records represent different elements on mail delivery. They're all related to the MX records and they all have to do with mail delivery, making sure that email comes into your domain properly, and then making sure that email goes out of your domain name properly.

Now, I'll try and describe these in different ways to give you a bit of an idea of what each of them are. MX records are like a address book or like your entry in the address book. And what they do is they tell someone where to go. So if you remember an old school address book, you'd open it up, you'd look for someone's name. And in there, it would tell you exactly where you need to go to get to that person's house or what their phone number is. And that's what those ones do.
